When one faces closer Edwin Diaz, it’s not going to be easy, but left fielder Jesse Winker found a way to get to Diaz by hitting a go-ahead home run to help the Reds edge the Mets, 5-4, at Citi Field on Monday night.
Winker swung at the first pitch he saw from Diaz and hit the ball over the right-center-field fence to break the 4-4 tie.
The Reds had to rely on their bullpen and it did its job, pitching 5 1/3 innings without allowing a run. That came after starter Tanner Roark allowed four runs in 3 2/3 innings.
