Cuomo on rising Lake Ontario water levels: Prepare for the worst, hope for the best

Governor Andrew Cuomo is warning communities along Lake Ontario to prepare for the worst and hope for the best.

In a press briefing Monday, he said that we just have to “accept a new reality that flooding and increased water flow is a new reality,” and that we have to start building for that new reality rather than responding to these continued emergencies.

And he says that this is not just New York.

“You turn on the news and you can see different weather patterns all across the globe and this is the effect for us here,” Cuomo said. “We tend to get hit in the same area over and over and over again. So let’s just assume the new reality and build and prepare for that.”

Cuomo says the concern is on the rain later in the week that could potentially cause flooding.

He adds that this flooding has become a recurring issue and the state of New York needs more help from the International Joint Commission.

Already, the governor estimates the state has spent $100 million in flooding repairs.
