Red Cross launching ‘Sound the Alarm’ campaign in Finger Lakes region

The Red Cross will be launching a national two-week effort on Wednesday to install 100,000 free smoke alarms in 100 cities.

The “Sound the Alarm” campaign is a national effort to prevent home fires. The Finger Lakes Chapter has announced it will hold a home fire safety and smoke alarm installation event on Saturday, May 11th, going door-to-door to install free smoke alarms and helping families create escape plans.

Volunteers will also be visiting homes across the six counties of the Finger Lakes Chapter throughout the two-week period. Services are free and available to all people in need, the Red Cross said.

Appointments can be made online.

A “Sound the Alarm” kickoff event is scheduled for Wednesday, April 24 at the Watkins Glen Harbor Hotel at 1:30 p.m.

Red Cross representatives will be joined by “Sound the Alarm” supporters to provide details about the home fire safety and smoke alarm installation events in the Finger Lakes.
