Police: Pittsford man charged with attempted rape in Canandaigua

The Canandaigua Police Department reports the arrest of a Pittsford man after he tried to meet with a child for sex in the city of Canandaigua.

David Alva, 33, of Pittsford was charged with second-degree attempted rape.

He’s accused of using a social media app, called Whisper, to entice illegal acts from what he believed to be a 14-year-old child.

Alva then came to the city with the intent of meeting with the 14-year-old to engage in sexual activity.

However, the person Alva was communicating with was actually an undercover officer from the Canandaigua Police Department.

The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office assisted with the investigation, according to police.

Additional charges are pending for Alva.
