Cornell student recounts Notre Dame Cathedral fire

The flames were so intense in Paris Monday that a Cornell student studying abroad said you could taste the smoke in the air.

“I initially found out about the fire because I saw the smoke cloud from my apartment,” said Kiersten Rhodes.

Rhodes says she and a friend took the metro closer to the historic Notre Dame cathedral to see more of the flames.

“There was a general red glow because it was dusk,” she said.
