Police are warning about contractor scams in Yates County after felony charges were filed against a Penn Yan resident.
The Penn Yan Police Department reports that Robert A. McFall, 49, of Penn Yan was arrested by officers last week following an investigation into construction work he performed under the name “Bob the Builder.”
Police say McFall took down payment for a job that he subsequently made no effort to complete. Investigators reported that he received $3,500 from the victim in advance for work agreed to be completed in September 2018.
However McFall failed to show up to complete the work; and ceased all contact with the victim. It was found that McFall had made no attempt to perform work and had used the money on other endeavors.
He was charged with felony grand larceny and arraigned at the Yates County Jail.
McFall will appear in Penn Yan Village Court.
Police are warning of a variety of contractor scams right now. They say residents should be aware of possible scams when seeking out contractors to work on their homes or property.
