Deputies: No injuries after vehicle catches fire inside garage

Deputies say they responded to a car and garage fire on Tuesday around 6:30 p.m. in Covert along State Route 96.

The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office reports that Erin Butler, 36, of Interlaken was alone in the garage working on his 1978 Fiat when a solenoid sparked and caught the fuel that had come from the carburetor on fire.

The engine bay and Erin’s car were engulfed in flames. Interlaken Fire Department was able to put the fire out. Trumansburg Fire Department responded to assist, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

No one was injured in the blaze. The vehicle is covered under homeowners insurance. The damage was estimated at approximately $3,000.
