Uncertainty.
There’s a lot of that in Phelps after a Finger Lakes Times article on Wednesday confirmed that The Phelps Hotel had shut down.
A cryptic posting to the restaurant’s Facebook Page raised questions about the closure.
That post, though, went up in February.
The Finger Lakes Times reported on Wednesday that Phelps Mayor Brian Hemminger had questions, too. He told the Times that the Village had not been contacted about it.
Dian Williams, secretary of the Phelps Chamber of Commerce told The Times that they’re largely in the dark on the matter.
FingerLakes1.com confirmed that a large ‘For Sale’ sign could be seen in front of the property. An 8 x 11 inch piece of paper, with a message on it – was attached to the front door.
It’s unclear what’s next for the historic Phelps Hotel, which has seen some high-profile guests over the years – including President Teddy Roosevelt during his campaign.
