The Pittsford Mendon girls basketball team made more history on Saturday and it had to work overtime to do it.
Trailing by four points with 1:15 remaining in the fourth quarter, the Vikings opened overtime with an 8-1 run and defeated Staten Island Academy, 72-67, in the Class A championship game at the Federation Tournament at Cool Insuring Arena in Glens Falls.
Mendon (27-1) is the first large-school (Class AA or A) team from Section V to win a Federation championship. Notre Dame of Batavia won a Class D Federation title in 1999 and Penn Yan won Class B in 1986. The Vikings outscored Staten Island Academy 21-5 on second-chance points. Read More
