The Ontario County Humane Society says first responders were called to the Poplar Beach area of Canandaigua Lake for a reported dog stranded on the ice.
Upon arrival of first responders rescuers were able to walk out and approach the dog. She was then coaxed back to shore and once on land – followed back to her residence.
Her owner Thamas Klem, 58, of Canandaigua said she had gotten out of his residence the day prior – but did not report the incident.
The dog is an 8-month-old female, black lab mix. She was not injured, according to deputies.
Klem was issued an appearance ticket for having a dog at large in the Town of Canandaigua and will answer the charge in Canandaigua Town Court.
The Sheriff’s Office, Canandaigua City and Crystal Beach fire departments also assisted.
