On a day when the 2009 Syracuse lacrosse team was honored in the Dome for their relentless fourth-quarter effort that captured the program’s 11th national title, it was a fourth-quarter barrage a decade later that earned the No. 15 Orange (3-2) a 14-10 win over No. 17 Johns Hopkins (2-3) in the latest chapter of the storied rivalry.
Jacob Buttermore’s hat trick led the way offensively, while Peter Dearth (2-1) chipped in two from the midfield. Bradley Voigt and Jamie Trimboli each scored two as well, while Drake Porter turned in 13 saves, including eight in the third quarter alone. The Orange defense buckled down and only allowed five goals over the game’s final 45 minutes.
