Hot shooting Cavs blow out Orange on Senior Night (full coverage)

#2 Virginia (27-2,15-2 ACC) connected on 18-of-25 3-point attempts and pulled away in the second half to defeat host Syracuse (19-11, 10-7 ACC), 79-53, in front of 29,052 in the Carrier Dome.

While the Cavaliers were setting a Syracuse opponent and Dome record for 3-pointers (18), the nation’s top defensive squad also excelled, limiting the Orange to 19 second-half points.

Elijah Hughes and Buddy Boeheim led the Orange with 11 points apiece. It was Hughes’ fifth straight game in double-digits and his 23rd of the season. Oshae Brissett and Paschal Chukwu tied for team honors with a game-high eight rebounds each.

PREVIEW:

Syracuse will take the court for the last time in the Carrier Dome during the regular season on Monday night when it hosts #2 Virginia. Opening tip is set for 7 pm. It’s Senior Night and the Orange will honor their senior class in a pregame ceremony. The game will be televised on ESPN and the Watch ESPN app as part of its Big Monday telecast.

Syracuse (19-10, 10-6) got back in the win column with a 79-54 victory at Wake Forest on Saturday. The Orange had one of its best shooting performances of the season as they hit 54.4 percent (31-of-57) of their shots. Syracuse led 38-30 at halftime and pulled away as the Demon Deacons went 13:33 without a basket and missed 11 straight shots.
