Deputies say a 42-year-old Romulus man was arrested on charges related to assaulting a 71-year-old female.

On Wednesday at approximately 3:52 p.m. deputies arrested William R. Nicklin, 42, of Romulus. He was charged with third-degree assault, a misdemeanor, and endangering the welfare of a vulnerable elderly person, or an incompetent or physically disabled person.

Deputies say the endangering charge is a felony.

The arrest stemmed from a welfare check that was called in by a third party.
