SECTIONAL WEDNESDAY REPORT: South Seneca one win away from 4th straight title; Wayne sees historic run come to a close

Wednesday’s winter storm wreaked havoc on the Section V boys and girls semifinal round with multiple games being rescheduled to Thursday. Several games were still contested last night, despite the weather.

The two-time defending Section V Class A2 Champion Wayne Eagles saw their season come to an with a loss to top seed East High at Victor High School. The amazing 3-year run of seniors Logan Blankenberg, Nick Carmichael, Billy Thomson and Logan Holgado comes to a close but not without recording the school’s first ever Sectional basketball title and then backing it up with a second last season.

Also seeing their season come to an end was the Geneva High Panthers who dropped a 67-48 decision to top seed Greece-Odyssey in the Class B1 semifinal round at Bloomfield High School.

Only one Wayne-Finger Lakes team was able to advance to the championship round on Wednesday night and that, to nobody’s surprise, was the South Seneca Lady Falcons who defeated Wheatland-Chili 60-45. Coach Heather Mott’s girls were led by 23 points from Jenna McDonald as they move one-win away from their fourth straight Sectional title. They’ll meet Oakfield-Alabama in the Class C3 Championship game at Victor High School on Saturday at 11:00 AM.

Full results from Wednesday night’s games along with updated brackets and Thursday night’s re-scheduled slate of games that includes a double-header in Penn Yan featuring a pair of Finger Lakes East teams that you can hear live on FL1 Radio…
