Skaneateles Aerodrome, other CNY airports split $1.5 million for projects

Four central New York airports will receive state funding for improvements, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Wednesday.

The largest grant in the region was awarded to Oswego County Airport, which will get $865,000 to build a new aircraft hangar. Syracuse Hancock International Airport will receive $338,000 for the construction of a new airfield equipment storage facility.

The state will give $211,000 to the Skaneateles Aerodrome for runway safety improvements. Chase Field Airport in Cortland County will receive $136,000 to upgrade its Automated Weather Observation Station and install a new security system.

Overall, 31 airports in New York will receive $23.6 million for infrastructure projects. The funding is provided by the State Aviation Capital Grant Program.

"New York's airports represent the front door to our local communities and are critical to facilitating tourism and business development," Cuomo said in a statement. "A world-class airport is crucial to regional economic growth, and by investing in the modernization of our local airports we are creating vibrant communities where people want to live, work and play."
