Penn Yan man gets prison for vandalizing churches

A local man was sentenced to prison Tuesday for vandalizing two area churches last June.

Yates County Judge Jason Cook sentenced Michael Badamy to 2½ to 5 years in prison for breaking into the United Methodist Church in Penn Yan and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Benton.

Badamy had been charged after a pair of break-ins in the Penn Yan area.

At the time, investigators said two churches were broken into. He caused damage to windows, doors, antique furniture, and office cabinets.

Badamy was charged with third-degree burglary, five counts of criminal mischief, petit larceny, and criminal trespass.
