Multiple departments were called to a structure fire at a three-family home on Ridge Road in Wayne County on Monday.
The call came in around 9:30 a.m., and witnesses said the flames and smoke could be seen coming from the rear of the home.
First responders said the fire reportedly started on a bed, but that information was unconfirmed.
One of the occupants of the building spoke with News10NBC, who described the moments of chaos leading up to when first responders arrived on-scene.
“I heard the lady say, ‘get out, get out,’ and I just heard everyone running down the stairs and screaming, and the babies,” Tziya Rossier told them. “The next thing I knew, I could smell the carbon dioxide coming into my room and that’s when I jumped up and went into my mom’s room. I told her that I can hear them yelling and that I can smell it, and that we needed to get out.”
This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
