A Wayne County man convicted almost a decade ago on child pornography charges has been criminally charged again, and this time he was the target of four separate investigations from agencies across the country when taken into custody.
Robert Casanzio, who was a Boy Scout leader when arrested in 2009, is now charged in federal court with the distribution of child pornography. Already a registered sex offender, Casanzio was the target of law enforcement investigations from the New York State Police, the Webster Police Department, and police from Texas and St. Louis, Missouri when he was arrested this month by federal investigators.
Casanzio is now in federal custody.
In 2009, Casanzio, then 19, was an assistant Scoutmaster in Irondequoit with the Boy Scouts of America when he was arrested on child pornography allegations. He had advertised online for “young teen naturists” and “young boys between the ages of 14 and 17″ who were willing to be photographed nude.
He was arrested in a police sting in which an undercover police officer responded to the ad, and Casanzio went to a local mall, thinking he was meeting a 15-year-old girl. He later pleaded guilty to attempted possession of child pornography.
