Seneca County IDA votes on tax abatement for Deer Haven Park

The new year is off to a busy start for the Seneca County Industrial Development Agency Board of Directors.

The board will consider giving final approval to a PILOT agreement with Deer Haven Park and owner Earl Martin.

The payment-in-lieu-of-taxes pact would allow Martin to pay $20,000 a year in lieu of regular property taxes for three years. After that, taxes would be paid based on the tax rates and assessed value assigned to the property. The PILOT payments would be shared by Seneca County, the town of Romulus and the Romulus school district.

Prior to the vote on the final inducement, the board will be asked to determine that the State Environmental Quality Review process has reached the conclusion that the incentive would not result in a negative impact on the environment.

Martin bought the nearly 3,000 acres of the former Seneca Army Depot from the IDA in a bidding process in 2016. He has created Deer Haven Park to work with Seneca White Deer to set up guided bus tours of the white deer herd, other wildlife and military sites on the former depot.
