A woman was extricated from her car and airlifted to the hospital Thursday morning after crashing into the side of a garbage truck in the Town of Ithaca. The crash happened at about 8 a.m. at the intersection of Hayts and Hopkins roads.
When responders from the Ithaca Fire Department, Bangs Ambulance and Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office arrived on scene, they found the woman trapped in her car. IFD’s Heavy Rescue team was called to the scene and worked to extricate the woman quickly in the frigid weather, with the temperature at about five below zero and a wind chill warning in effect.
