A jury has convicted the Lyons man accused of killing another during a violent incident over the summer.
Martin Smallwood, 33, was convicted of second-degree murder after the July 21, 2018 incident. Police said after that 42-year-old Camila “Milo” Robledo was killed in the incident.
Smallwood was initially charged with first degree manslaughter and first degree assault after beating Robledo to death with a 2×4.
Prosecutors had said Smallwood and Robledo got into a fight in the rear parking lot of a garage on Water Street in Lyons. During that incident Smallwood hit Robledo with the wooden board multiple times.
He died from injuries sustained during the beating at Newark-Wayne Community Hospital.
