Amazon is seeking to expand its presence in New York as the company continues to face blowback over its decision to open its new headquarters in Queens.
The online retailer on Wednesday announced it will be teaming up with LaGuardia Community College in Queens, as well as the City University of New York and the State University of New York, to offer a certificate program in cloud computing.
The program, which is expected to be rolled out as early as the fall 2019 semester, will enable students to learn skills needed to acquire an entry level job in the tech-industry at Amazon and beyond.
“As we continue to expand our presence in New York, we’re excited to work with the community to provide more opportunities for skills development,” Ardine Williams, vice president of Workforce Development at Amazon, said in a statement.
