The Midlakes girls varsity basketball team has been winning basketball games at a record clip over the past few seasons. In fact, they have not lost a basketball game to a Section V opponent since February of 2016. That streak was snapped on Monday night at the hands of Our Lady of Mercy, a Class AA opponent (Midlakes is Class B1). Mercy was too much for the Lady Screaming Eagles who lost the road game, 89-66, snapping a 13 game winning streak.
The Midlakes full court pressure defense was torched by the Monarchs who scored over 20 points in each quarter of the contest while holding Midlakes to just 7 second quarter points. The Mercy scoring attack was led by Emily Tabone’s 21 points, Katie Whitaker who scored 20, and Maggie McDonough who finished with 19.
For Midlakes, Alaina Forbes led the way with 29 points, Macy Kisner scored 16 and Hannah Galloway added 8. Midlakes falls to 13-1 on the season and hits the court again against Mynderse in Seneca Falls on Wednesday night.
Also on Monday night in Wayne-Finger Lakes girls basketball:
Pal-Mac defeated Waterloo 40-37. The Finger Lakes East contest was tied 16-16 at halftime but the Lady Red Raiders pulled away after a Waterloo three pointer tied the game with 1:33 remaining in the game.
The Romulus Lady Warriors picked up a 50-35 home win over Hammondsport. Romulus was led by Kyaira Woody who finished with 19 points, 5 assists and 6 rebounds. Danielle Goerlich had a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds and Hannah Minges finished with 4 points and 9 boards. Hammondsport was lef by Tea Flynn’s 10 point effort and McKenzie Boscoe who finished with 9 points.
Naples lost on the road to Campbell-Savona, 64-47 despite 36 points from Autumn Kunes and 7 from Felicity Hutchinson. Also, Mount Morris defeated Honeoye 39-34.
