The Cayuga County Health Department is advising residents of the Village of Cato and those who use its water supply to boil it before use.
This order was issued Saturday afternoon.
This comes after part of the village’s water system lost pressure due to a water line repair. Health officials say when this happens, it increases the chance that untreated water and harmful microbes could enter your drinking water.
Once repairs are complete, the Village of Cato will do tests to confirm there is no contamination in the water before giving the all clear.
For right now, health officials say bring tap water to a boil for one minute, and then cool before using.
Health officials expect the order to remain in effect for a few days.
