A village of Weedsport trustee resigned from his elected office in December — exactly one year after a village employee filed a harassment claim against the village.
In a letter to Village Clerk Christine Spoor dated Dec. 14, Christopher Lukins announced he was resigning from his elected position as a village trustee “with a heavy heart.” His resignation would be effective midnight Dec. 31, he wrote.
“The last 16 (plus) years on the village board have been a mostly rewarding experience and opportunity to give back to my community,” Lukins wrote. “However, it is time for me to leave the board.”
Lukins said this week that the “bottom line” reason for his resignation was his health, noting he had a heart attack in November. “Overall, I needed to slow down in my life. … I don’t need the added stress.”
