A controversial proposal concerning a solar power farm in Ontario County will be the focus of a meeting Wednesday night.
Delaware River Solar is looking to build the solar farm on 40 acres of land in Farmington. The proposal has split taxpayers, some of whom argue the proposal would change the character of the area.
The land would be leased to the company by a local couple.
“The farm is going to stay in Farmington, and the cows are going to remain on the property,” Carol Smith, one of owners of the land, told neighbors at a previous meeting. “Everybody wants to go green, and solar is the thing of the future, and, well, it’s here now. They want to go green, but they don’t want it in the front yard or side yard or backyard. We’re willing to put it in the pasture lot.”
