School officials respond to bomb, shooting threats in Auburn on Monday

Officials from the Auburn Enlarged City School District sent out an automated message to parents trying to quell rumors that there was a threat of violence against city schools and students.

Specifically, a threat of violence at the high school. During the morning hours parents became aware of a rumor, which included the threat of a shooting or possible bomb.

Officials were flooded with calls from concerned parents.

Superintendent Jeff Pirozzolo said the district sent out the robocall to make clear that the social media posts are “completely untrue.” In addition, the high school principal made an announcement to let everyone inside the building know about the situation.

The district is working with the Auburn Police Department to investigate the false information being moved around.

The APD posted the following message on Twitter: “It has come to the attention of the Auburn Police Department, specifically our School Resource Officers, that rumors have been circulating social media concerning a ‘school shooting’ at the High School today. This information is FALSE.”
