Canandaigua Salvation Army thrift store closes for good

The Salvation Army thrift store in Canandaigua is closing for good and people who shop there regularly are angry and asking why.

“I come here almost daily. I never know what I’m going to find…” said Matthew Dennis, Canandaigua resident.

For years this store has been a lifesaver for people like veteran Matthew Dennis. He walks here regularly to see what deals he can find and he isn’t alone.

Come Aug. 30, this store will no longer be an option for Dennis and scores of other Ontario County families.

The Salvation Army did not state the reason it plans to close this thrift store saying only that the purpose of this store is to raise money for rehab programs that people can not afford to pay for.

In a news release Friday they stated, “Current circumstances have made supporting these programs through this store impossible.”

Right now, everything is 50-percent off. But, neighbors have launched a petition to save this store.
