Doubledays get off to fast start in win over Black Bears

Once the West Virginia Black Bears finally got on the scoreboard, the Auburn Doubledays answered emphatically.

The Black Bears scored their first two runs in the top of the eighth but the Doubledays put up a four-spot in the bottom half, as Auburn routed West Virginia, 9-2, at Falcon Park Monday.

For Doubledays manager Jerad Head, a fast start offensively and a good outing by Auburn starter Yonathan Ramirez helped spark the team.

“The first inning we jumped on them early and we did a great job with two outs — I think all three runs came with two outs. That set the tone,” Head said. “Yonathan Ramirez pitched as well as I’ve seen him in the last three years. For me, it’s his best outing to date. He’s been working on some things and making adjustments, and it paid off tonight.”
