Deputies say a Wolcott man was arrested for possessing stolen property and promoting prison contraband after an investigation at the Wayne County Jail.
Gerald E. White, 44, of Wolcott attempted to mail stolen checks from the jail to a party outside. The mail was returned undeliverable, according to deputies.
Once the mail was returned it was discovered that White possessed the checks that were stolen from a business in Lackawanna.
He was arrested and charged with fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property and promoting prison contraband.
He was committed back to the Wayne County Jail and will answer the charges at a later date.
