Karen Baer, who directed the Geneva Human Rights Commission for 16 years, has been terminated from the same position in the Tompkins County Office of Human Rights.
Tompkins County Administrator Jason Molino informed Baer of her immediate dismissal by way of a letter Monday. According to the Ithaca Voice newspaper, Molino said Baer was terminated because of her failure to participate in an official investigation, lack of accountability and failure to follow directives.
The newspaper reported that the county commissioned two investigations, in 2015 and ’16, to look into claims Baer made of racial and gender-based discrimination, retaliation, and a hostile work environment.
