Cayuga County may switch to leasing its vehicles instead of purchasing, a move that could save nearly $200,000 this year alone.
Cayuga County Administrator J. Justin Woods and Budget Director Lynn Marinelli presented the proposed fleet management change at the county Legislature’s Ways and Means Committee meeting Tuesday.
The county’s 2018 budget included funds to replace nine vehicles between the sheriff’s department, social services and health department. Resolutions to replace those had been tabled while county staff examined a leasing agreement with Enterprise Fleet Management Services. Using leased vehicles instead of purchasing new ones, Marinelli and Woods found, would save $200,000 in 2018 alone.
