Cato-Meridian school district recognized by education research group

Cato-Meridian Elementary School has been acknowledged by an education research and consulting group.

For the second year in a row, the school has been recognized by the company Better Outcomes as being among the top public schools for the achievement of students in poverty, according to a letter the Cato-Meridian school district received earlier this month from the company. The company is based in Hartsdale.

The letter said all 243 schools recognized by the company have a student body comprised 25 percent or more of economically disadvantaged students scoring a 3 or 4 on the state's 2016 English language arts assessments for third- through eighth-grade, have at least 65 percent of economically disadvantaged students hitting 2, 3 or 4 scores on the 2016 English assessments. The schools also don't have school choice within their districts or have any admissions requirements beyond residency, the letter said.
