Auburn driver charged with DWI after cars burned up at Union Springs auto shop

An Auburn woman, who crashed her vehicle into an auto repair shop in Union Springs on Saturday has been charged with driving while intoxicated, according to the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Gould says that around 1 a.m., 40-year-old June Heath was driving on Route 326 when her vehicle went off the road and rolled into a parking lot at Oakwood Service Center.

Heath suffered minor injuries in the wreck, but was released to a third-party. She was charged with driving while intoxicated and unlicensed operation. She was also ticketed for moving from a lane unsafely.

The charges will be answered at a later date.

Deputies say that six used cars were damaged in the accident, which resulted in a fire at the lot. None of the vehicles were owned by customers, according to the Auburn Citizen — and the fire was put out within 30 minutes.

The fire started after Heath’s vehicle rolled and came to rest. She quickly exited, but the fire within her vehicle spread to others.
