Legal steps may increase scholarship money for Mynderse graduates

Graduating seniors at Mynderse Academy may be able to apply for more college scholarship aid each June if the school board takes action Thursday.

The board is being asked to consider a motion approving a March 7 Memorandum of Agreement between the school district and Business and Operations Administrator Jim Bruni regarding the transfer of scholarship trust funds. The resolution would direct school Superintendent Bob McKeveny to take steps to transfer various student scholarship funds to the Seneca Falls Education Foundation, and ask the school district’s attorneys to begin proceedings under the New York Estates Power and Trustees Law needed to make the transfer to the Education Foundation “so as to maximize their collective income generating ability for the benefit of district students.”

School district lawyers have gone to state Supreme Court of Seneca County to obtain a decree or court order directing the scholarship funds be transferred to the foundation.
