A Webster man is facing criminal charges after admitting to illegally possessing a pistol and some marijuana during a traffic stop Friday, state police said.
Zachary F. Sharlow, 33, was charged with third-degree possession of a weapon, a class D felony, and criminal possession of marijuana, a class A misdemeanor. State police said Sharlow was stopped by a state trooper around 3:30 p.m. on Route 104 in Sterling for driving while using a portable electronic device, and the trooper smelled the odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle.
Sharlow showed the trooper the marijuana he had with him, and said he had a 40-caliber Glock 23 in the car but didn’t have his permit for the weapon with him, state police said. Police said a 22-round magazine with 18 rounds was found in the vehicle as well. The gun was retrieved and secured and around 5 ounces of marijuana was determined to be in the car, police said.
