Police say an Auburn man with an extensive history with law enforcement drove through a storefront on Grant Avenue — and then exited the same way.
Joshua LaClair, 31, was charged with second-degree unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, a misdemeanor, and leaving the scene of an accident.
No one was injured, and when police arrived — along with firefighter and EMS — the store had been evacuated.
Police say LaClair drove through the building, then fled the scene. He left an adult female passenger in the car, according to the Auburn Citizen.
He was located and taken to the Cayuga County Jail on a probation violation.
The Citizen reports that LaClair was convicted of third-degree grand larceny, third-degree welfare fraud and misuse of food stamps in 2012 and sentenced to four months of weekends in jail and five years probation. His license had been suspended for deriving while ability impaired by drugs and failing to pay a fine, too.
The cause of the crash was unclear, but police say LaClair did not appear to be intoxicated or under the influence of any drugs at the time of the accident.
