WROC-TV (Channel 8) reports on the opening celebration for the new Habitat for Humanity house sponsored by Rochester Institute of Technology and constructed by RIT volunteers.
ANCHOR: RIT unveiled its first green home today. Student volunteers have been building the house with Flower City Habitat for Humanity for months now. It is located on Whitney Street in Rochester's JOSANA neighborhood. The home includes solar panels, a tankless water heater, and soy-based foam insolation. There's a 95 percent energy efficient furnace and a special ventilation system to prevent heat loss. Construction started last winter and the home is now in the final stages of completion.
ALEX SHIP: It's overwhelming at times but we struggled through and feel really great about what we produced.
ANCHOR: April Randall is the soon-to-be homeowner. She is set to move in next month and RIT plans to work with Habitat for Humanity in the future to find ways to improve existing designs in a more sustainable way. Date Added: February 23rd, 2010
