Hydrilla attacks Cascadilla & the Cayuga Inlet ENVIRONMENTAL EMERGENCY: In August 2011, the aggressive invasive aquatic plant, Hydrilla verticillata, was discovered in Cayuga Inlet in Ithaca, NY at the south end of Cayuga Lake, the longest of New York's Finger Lakes. Unless swift action is taken, this pest will ruin Ithaca's waterfront and probably infest much of the entire lake, and could spread throughout the region and even to the Great Lakes. Dr. Holly Menninger of the NY Invasive Species Research Institute at Cornell University explains this environmental emergency and what we can do about it. Date Added: September 24th, 2011 |
