1980 NCAA Men's Lacrosse National Championship
The 1980 NCAA Division I Men's Lacrosse Tournament was the 10th annual Division I NCAA Men's Lacrosse Championship tournament. Eight NCAA Division I college men's lacrosse teams met after having played their way through a regular season, and for some, a conference tournament. The championship game was hosted by Cornell University, and was played in front of 7,557 fans. The game saw the Johns Hopkins University defeat University of Virginia by the score of 9--8 in double-overtime.

William Smith College presents Title IX Trailblazers
Collectively, Pat Genovese, Aliceann Wilber and Sally Scatton have more than a century of coaching experience, compiling more than 1,300 career wins, 21 conference championships, 55 NCAA tournament appearances, and four NCAA Division III Championships. The trailblazing trio has served as teachers and mentors to generations of young women who have blossomed under their tutelage. Hundreds of Heron student-athletes have received conference, regional and national awards for the efforts on the field and in the classroom. Their dedication and leadership has not gone unnoticed. Together, they have 16 Regional Coach of the Year awards and 10 National Coach of the Year awards. Pat, Aliceann, and Sally have been inducted into nine halls of fame, including the U.S. Lacrosse National Hall of Fame (Pat) and the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Hall of Fame (Sally).

Cornell Personal robotics lab (http://pr.cs.cornell.edu), directed by Prof. Ashutosh Saxena, has developed software for robots to manipulate objects. This enables robots to perform tasks such as place items in a fridge, arrange items in the room, and slice a cucumber in half.

Transformer Fire in Waterloo
There was also a transformer fire at the Mott's Plant on Swift Street in Waterloo that was reported around 9:30 am on 4/17/12. NYSEG cut power to the line and that situation was controlled.

1978 NCAA Men's Lacrosse National Championship
The 1978 NCAA Division I Men's Lacrosse Tournament was the 8th annual Division I NCAA Men's Lacrosse Championship tournament. Twelve NCAA Division I college men's lacrosse teams met after having played their way through a regular season, and for some, a conference tournament. The championship game was hosted by Rutgers University, and was played in front of 13,527 fans. The game saw the Johns Hopkins University defeat Cornell University by the score of 13--8. The finals was notable for the defeat by Hopkins of Cornell, which had come into the game riding a 42 game unbeaten streak. Hopkins had lost earlier in the season to Cornell, 16-11, on April 15 at Homewood Field in Baltimore. A 15-12 setback to Navy in the 1975 NCAA semifinals was the last loss for Cornell prior to this title game. Mike O'Neill, attackman from Johns Hopkins, who was later named the Division 1 National Player of the Year, was named the top player in the Division 1 championship game, finishing with one goal and three assists
