Hydrilla attacks Cascadilla & the Cayuga Inlet
ENVIRONMENTAL EMERGENCY: In August 2011, the aggressive invasive aquatic plant, Hydrilla verticillata, was discovered in Cayuga Inlet in Ithaca, NY at the south end of Cayuga Lake, the longest of New York's Finger Lakes. Unless swift action is taken, this pest will ruin Ithaca's waterfront and probably infest much of the entire lake, and could spread throughout the region and even to the Great Lakes. Dr. Holly Menninger of the NY Invasive Species Research Institute at Cornell University explains this environmental emergency and what we can do about it.

Man killed after tree falls on him
A man is dead after a tree fell on him. It happened on Hamlin Center Road near to Route 18 in Hamlin.Monroe County Sheriff's Deputies tell News 10NBC the tree was on the ground and had been for some time. The man was cutting various portions of the large tree when part of it rolled onto him.

Ithaca Gorges Flood
On September 7 & 8, 2011, heavy rains from Tropical Storm Lee plowed into central New York State, including the Finger Lakes region. Though Ithaca, NY, at the south end of Cayuga Lake did not see the flood damage of areas a little to the east and south, there was considerable minor flooding and damage, and Ithaca's famous gorges were roaring.
