The federal Bureau of Indian Affairs got an earful Wednesday night, june 17, 2009 on the Cayuga Indian Nation's bid to place about 125 acres of ancestral homeland in Cayuga and Seneca counties into federal trust. Possibly 1,000 or more people jammed into the athletic center at the New York Chiropractic College in Seneca Falls for the last hearing on the nation's bid to be awarded sovereign tax-free land from the BIA. Aurora Shoe Co. ready to step up sales
A decade ago, if you wanted a pair of Aurora Shoe Co. shoes, you went to the pole barn factory on Route 90 south of this Cayuga County village. While a resident cat looked on, you climbed a platform just inside a garage door, sat in an old church pew or lawn chair and were fitted for a pair. The quirky business model worked well for the owners and employees. The shoes -- based on styles dating back to the Middle Ages -- became popular here and overseas. Actors Jodie Foster and Liam Neeson owned Aurora shoes.

Bass Pro Shops at FL Mall: Unrealistic Expectations?
When Bass Pro Shops opened its store in the Fingerlakes Mall five years ago, the excitement was palpable. Chet Susslin / The Citizen Cars line some filled and some vacant storefronts at the Fingerlakes Crossing shopping plaza on Thursday morning. The shopping center was developed as a result of the opening of Bass Pro Shops across the street in 2004. Celebrities and government officials attended a packed ribbon-cutting ceremony. Tens of thousands of shoppers filled the store and spilled into the rest of the mall. Today, though, the scene at the mall is much quieter.
