Cady's Top Five:

Garden State

What I enjoyed about this film was that it captures that post-college, pre-marriage, mid-20's disorientation feeling perfectly. Deep, humorous, and enlightening with amazing music. I think the story is one of the year's best.

Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind

Anyone who has ever loved and lost will find something here that will tug at the heartstrings. Highly original and intellectual with great imagination and a memorable love story. Eternal Sunshine is truly one film that has got to be experienced!

Love Actually

This movie is utterly charming, irresistible, and all those other accolades usually launched at a cute, fluffy, romantic comedy. This film will leave you with a smile on your face and an almost irresistible urge to hug somebody. I Loved it, Loved it, Loved it! Watch this with your sweetheart right before Christmas.

Napoleon Dynamite

This movie was awesomely refreshing and has "cult classic" written all over it. For me the film delivered non-stop laughs, providing viewers with tons of unforgettable catch phrases. It's hard to find a flick that makes you laugh so hard that you cry - this one will do it!

50 First Dates

This is a light-hearted Adam Sandler movie that should appeal to broader audiences but still easily satisfy his core base of fans. You are provided with lots of humor, plenty of romantic moments and some excellent cinematography in the locales of Hawaii . The film is definitely worth a watch for the whole family. I have seen this movie at least 8 times!

My Must Mentions:
Kill Bill - Both Volumes
Sin City
Mystic River
Closer

Kyle's Top Five:
The Grey Zone
Far and away my "favorite" Holocaust film to date. This adapted play moves from stage to screen with great agility and stark, horrifying beauty. The ethical and moral constraints under which these prisoners live will keep you thinking for days about "what would I have done" and "is there a real right or wrong". A must for anyone who is ready for a challenging film.

Garden State
This is Natalie Portman at her best, so you know it's good. Zach Braff is wonderful as well, and the two have a great chemistry that only enhances the already fantastic screenplay. This film didn't garner Oscar nominations for nothing.

The Woodsman
Again, difficult subject matter (pedophilia) but another "thinker" that explores the area of human nature between black and white. Kevin Bacon has a depth that overwhelms me and his wife, Kyra Sedgwick shines as his lonely girlfriend.

Hotel Rwanda
I have read a great deal about a man named Paul Rusesabagina, and to see Don Cheadle bring him to life was amazing. Amidst the beauty of a small country called Rwanda , a holocaust occurred while we in the U.S. watched the OJ Simpson debacle unfold. Special mention to Nick Nolte as a U.N. official powerless to help the people he has been dispatched to protect.

Mrs. Brown
If you love Billy Connolly as I do, and you are into period pieces, "Mrs. Brown" delivers. This is funny, touching, and suspenseful. And I have three more words: Dame Judi Dench. Enough said.

My Must Mentions:
Closer
Frailty
Rabbit Proof Fence
