Wedding Crashers (2005)

Review Posted 01/20/06

In this raucous romantic comedy, John (Owen Wilson) and his partner in crime, Jeremy (Vince Vaughn), are emotional criminals; they know just how to use a woman's hopes and dreams for their own carnal gain. Their modus operandi is to crash weddings so they can meet guests who want to hook up with someone else on such a romantic day. But when John meets Claire (Rachel McAdams), he discovers what true love -- and heartache -- feels like.

Cady's Take:

Are Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson the next Aykroyd and Belushi?  Well… I wouldn’t go that far, but they are a pretty darn funny pair and their collaboration in Wedding Crashers pretty much solidifies their status as two of the funniest (and sexiest) men in Hollywood.   Akroyd and Belushi? No, but they are the closest thing we got.

While Wedding Crashers is supposed to be about the chemistry that Jeremy (Vaughn) and John (Wilson) share with the ladies, the real story is the chemistry between theses Wedding Crashers themselves.  Their ablity to play off one another makes this a movie that is so funny I guarantee you will want to watch it more then once.   Both characters have a love interest quirky Gloria (Isla Fisher) who is pursuing Jeremy and Claire (Rachel McAdams) who John is pursuing.   Both of the girls happen to be the daughter of the Secretary Treasurer of the United States played by the one and only Christopher Walken, who as usual gives a solid and comical performance.

Is it Caddyshack, The Blues Brothers, or the Big Lebowski?  Hell no… but Wedding Crashers is hands down the funnies movie of 2005.

Kyle's Take:

Three words: Wedding Crashers delivers. This movie brings the funny, and it brings it over and over again. Am I biased? Yes. I am in true and superficial love with Vince Vaughn based on characters he has played over the years and I am not embarassed to admit it. Here, he and Owen Wilson prove that the buddy comedy is not dead. Far superior to "The 40-Year-Old Virgin", Wedding Crashers had me howling with laughter from start to finish.

Buddies John and Jeremy take wedding crashing to new heights when they decide that they are going to crash the wedding of the daughter of a high-ranking government official (played by Christopher Walken in an oddly toned-down performance). Vaughn's maniacal delivery and Owen's more laid-back style compliment one another as they attempt to maneuver through the lies they have told and get the girls.

The concept itself is hilarious: two men who actually look at a calendar and see something called a "wedding season", and in that season the answer to their dreams: desparate women. Of course, we know that it is these two men who are desperate, but that doesn't change how much they entertain us in the course of their journey.

Just buy it!
