Thanks to a 31 point performance by junior sensation Ashley Vanderwall the Red Raiders of Palmyra Macedon defeated the Newark Reds 54-28 in Varsity girls basketball action last night. Vanderwall not only scored 31 points (20 in the first half) but she passed the one thousand point mark in her career. The Red Raiders remain atop of the Finger Lakes East.

Both clubs are now tied for the Finger Lakes East lead.

The Waterloo Indians varsity girls basketball team fought off the Newark Lady Reds in a tough 70-57 win over Newark on Wednesday at Newark. Newark held a 37-31 halftime lead. The Reds were held scoreless the final three minutes of the game. Lindsay Johnson scored 23 to pace the winners. Lauren Deming seen in action against the Reds Jessica Shields scored 19 points. Shields scored 16 in a losing effort.

The Victor Blue Devils Varsity swim team captured the first ever Jim DeWitt Invitational swim meet held at the Newark Senior high school on Saturday. DeWitt a former varsity coach at Newark has been ill for several years. Victor had a total of 572.5 points followed by Pal Mac with 481.5. Newark finished third in the event with 385.5 points. Nearly three hundred dollars was raised for the American Cancer Society in honor of Coach DeWitt.
