Wood ducks are the epitome of a tough subject to photograph. They're very leery and spook at the slightest interference to their environment. This drake was kind enough to stick around till I could sneak in a bit closer to photograph him at Durand Eastman Park.

The yellow on the face of this double-crested cormorant tells me this is a juvenile, the breeding-age adults instead show orange. Adults also have two crests (typically colored white) just above each eye usually only seen during breeding season. This one has been a frequent sight at Durand Eastman Park this fall.

This time of year pokeweed plants are beginning to die off to their roots, but the berries that remain are a staple to many birds, including the cedar waxwing. This photo shows the waxwing's red "wax" tips on its wing feathers, that give this bird its name. The tip of its tail color can range from yellow to orange, depending on what the cedar waxwing forages on. Taken on Sunday in Ontario.

" Seneca Falls Soldier Laid to Rest "
On Friday, Corporal Elmer Kidd was laid to rest with full military honors at the Sampson Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Romulus. Corporal Elmer Kidd was declared missing in action at the age of 22 following the battle of Chosin Reservoir in North Korea. Recent advances in DNA testing enabled the positive identification of Cpl. Kidd and the return of his remains to his family in Seneca Falls.

At Syracuse airport Tuesday morning, Cpl. Elmer Kidd of Seneca Falls finally returned home. He went missing in action in Korea, on November 30, 1950. His remains were identified on October 11, 2012. After a funeral service at Sanderson-Moore Funeral home this Friday, he will buried at Sampson Veterans Cemetery.

A most touching moment during Bruce Springsteen's 3 hour and 15 minute performance at the Blue Cross Arena on Halloween night. Here, The Boss is paying homage to his late E Streeter's Clarence Clemens "the Big Man who joined the band" and Danny Federici during the show's closing number of 10th Avenue Freeze-Out. The jumbotron became a shrine as images of these two men beside Bruce filled the audience with memories of years gone by.
