" New Cabins at Sampson "
There's a new way to enjoy camping at Sampson State Park. Superintendent Tom Watt said seven rustic cabins have been constructed at the popular state park. Located at 6096 Route 96A, on the shore of Seneca Lake, Sampson is one of the state’s most popular parks. Its 2083 acres features 245 electrical sites, 64 non electrical sites and now, seven rustic cabins. The cabins have no electricity or water. They have bunks that sleep four and porches with an overhang. There’s a fire ring and picnic table for each cabin. They can be rented for $41 to $42 per night with a two night minimum. by calling 1-800-456-CAMP.

A crowd gathered Thursday morning in Geneva for the grand opening of Peebles. In addition to the long line of shoppers waiting for the doors to open, there were several representatives from the Geneva Area Chamber of Commerce as well as City of Geneva representatives in attendance.

" Playground Gone... For Now "
The Frank Knight Elementary School Playground is no more. Contractors removed all the old playground equipment in preparation of a new playscape with age appropriate equipment and activities. The new playscape will be completed this summer. A committee of school personnel and parents helped architects in the design of the new playscape. Stanton Elementary School's playground will be updated next summer.

" South Seneca Athletic Awards "
South Seneca recently held their annual sports awards, scholarships and recognition ceremony, honoring athletes from three seasons of sports from the 2011-12 school year. Pictured are all of the MVP, Most Improved, Coaches Awards, Most Outstanding Athlete, Sportsmanship Awards and a special award: the first annual John E. Guinan Memorial Award was presented by John's daughter, Anne Guinan. The recipients were three-sport seniors, Chelsey Marsh and Ryan Esguerra, athletes who exemplified the traits that Mr. Guinan valued in an athlete: respectful, creative, unselfish, ethical and courageous under pressure. Athletic Director, Christa Butterer announced the Sportsmanship Awards as voted on by all coaches: seniors, Jasmine Delolng and Micah Polk and the Most Outstanding Athletes; seniors, Chelsey Marsh and Matt Wyckoff. Falcon All-Sports Boosters' President, Ken Szymanski presented the Dedicated Senior Awards to Chelsey Marsh and Hayden Wagner. Coaches presented their Coaches Award, Most Improved Player and Most Valuable Player awards, while thanking parents, family and friends, Athletic Director Butterer, the Maintenance Department for South Seneca's excellent field conditions.
