" S. Seneca Kindergarten Celebration "
South Seneca Kindergarten Celebration: Corn Bread and Pumpkin Bread on Woven Mats with Turkey Hats, Corn bread, pumpkin bread on woven mats with turkey feathered hats; South Seneca Elementary kindergarten celebrated a Thanksgiving feast. Previous to the event, each student wove their own paper placemat and made colorful 'wampum' necklaces out of multi-colored pasta. Each kindergarten class had a chance to make a pan of pumpkin bread, corn bread and a special treat. Starting off the celebration with a 'Thanks' song led by music teacher, Diane W. Dersch, students feasted with Kindergarten teachers, Jyl Corcoran, Marie Roloson and Jenn Gigliotti.

About 200 people attended a candlelight vigil Tuesday night for Geneva murder victims Helen Buchel and her 12-year old daughter Brittany Passalacqua. Taking part in the vigil were Helen's mother Dale Cook(holding candle) and Buchel's son Branden Passalacqua (wearing the hat). Branden found the bodies of his mother and sister last Friday. 34-John Brown, Helen's boyfriend, has been charged with the murders. He's being held in the Ontario County Jail without bail. " Friend Stands Up For Slain Woman & Daughter "
The Manchester man charged with killing his girlfriend and her 12-year-old daughter Friday night in their Geneva apartment pleaded not guilty in Geneva City Court Monday morning. Police charged 35- year old John Brown with first degree murder in the stabbing death of his girlfriend and her daughter. Helen Buchel and her daughter, Brittany Passalacqua, were found dead in their apartment Friday by Buchel's son. Helen's friend Kim Cascio was in court Monday. Cascio has been friends with Helen since they were 13- years old and told the media "It has been hard, my family has been really supportive, my family is in disbelief. It is just really scary this domestic issue is really scary, He just seemed sneaky to me and I knew he had violent past but I didn't say much and he was good to her in front of me and so I didn't say anything." " David Greenberg Highlights Poetry "
Poetry and rhyme kept South Seneca elementary students focused on visiting author and poet, David Greenberg last week. The author visited South Seneca Elementary to enhance their reading incentive theme for the year; “Put a Poem in Your Pocket”, modeled after the annual Family Reading Partnership reading celebration. Greenberg tries to make each presentation his best ever, “these (presentations) are based on my poetry picture books. They are fun, funny, inspirational and filled with wisdom about what makes good writing and good writers.” After the presentations, Mr. Greenberg lunched with 16 students as a reward to those that participated in the summer reading challenge: Lillian McMillen, Kylie Cornish, Taylor Barkee, Lukas Day, Mathew Moore, Hailey Crane, Braeden Cupp, Nicholas Houck, Cristian McMillen, Catlin Cornish, Peter Trim, Julia Diamond, Cameron Cupp, Alexandria Miglioratti, Emma Worrell, Elijah Trim and Madelyn Houck. Groton Elementary and Trumansburg Elementary also hosted Mr. Greenberg for poetry presentations and he brought the house down at every presentation. Waterloo Election Inspector Kathy Excell helps a voter deposit her paper ballot in the new scanner voting machines. The three machines in Waterloo stopped working early Tuesday morning. All the ballots were then dropped into the locked machines. They will all be counted by hand after the polls close, that will delay the results of the Waterloo races and the outcome of the Seneca County District Attorney's race between Democrat Robert Mascari and Republican Barry Porsch.
