" Thursday Evening Fire in Seneca Falls "
State and local fire investigators will return to a former Seneca Falls Church Friday morning to look for the cause of a fire that heavily damaged the structure last night. Fire Departments from Seneca, Ontario, Wayne, and Cayuga counties were called to help fight the flames or standby in Seneca County. The first report of of heavy smoke in the area came in 9:20pm Thursday night. The Women’s Interfaith Institute in the Finger Lakes is a non-profit organization founded in 2002 and dedicated to promoting understanding, cooperation, peace, and women’s leadership. The Women’s Interfaith Institute purchased the old Assembly of God Church on the corner of Fall and Clinton Streets in Seneca Falls in 2002. The building at 140 Fall Street was constructed in 1871 by the Wesleyan Chapel, host of the first Women’s Rights Convention in 1848. Photo by Charlie Bowman.
