Congratulations to Toby Coleman, 2008 Wal-Mart Teacher of the Year for Seneca County. Mr. Coleman is a 5th grade teacher at LaFayette Intermediate School in Waterloo. " UCE, Cayuga Indians Rally "
Over 300 Native Americans from tribes across New York traveled to Seneca Falls Saturday to show their support for the Cayuga Indian Nation and their right to sell tax-free gasoline and cigarettes at the Lakeside Trading Gas Station on Route 89. The Native Americans held signs that read "No NYS Taxes" and "Honor Treaties" as the Cayuga and Seneca County chapters of Upstate Citizens for Equality held a motorcade supporting the collecting of the sales tax. The motorcade-which included a couple of hundred vehicles-traveled around Seneca County and on the New York State Thruway between the Waterloo and Geneva exits. Meanwhile hundreds of cars lined up at Lakeside Trading to get $10.00 in free gas and purchase gas for $3.41 a gallon while the Cayuga Nation refuses to pay NYS sales tax on the purchases.
